As more parents say yes to cell phones, more schools say no

— The bell rings, the students stream out of school — and pull out their cell phones. And so goes the daily ritual at schools across the state despite a statewide ban on cell phones in schools.

Wednesday’s Family section examines the increased use of the devices and the disparity their use creates between schools and parents and students. For parents, cell phones are vital tools that allow them to keep in touch with their children. For students, they’re a means of communicating with friends and family. For teachers, they’re often considered a disruption in the classroom.
