BENTON — The Benton City Council on Monday delayed voting on the 2010 budget for the second time.
The proposed budget of just over $10.5 million is 4.53 percent leaner than last year’s budget of roughly $11 million.
The council voted 9-1 to table the budget vote, but aldermen did not discuss what changes they intend to make.
In December, the council delayed passing a budget for the new year when concerns were raised about a proposed $25 monthly health-insurance fee for employees.
As a way to balance the budget without that cost to employees, Mayor Rick Holland proposed cutting $26,000 from the Community Development Department’s economic development money.
The proposal tabled Monday reflected that $26,000 cut.
City Finance Director Karen Scott said before the council meeting that she didn’t expect any more changes regarding health insurance or Community Development, but rather a closer look at funds that pay for city officials’ travel.
Aldermen are expected to discuss the budget at a finance committee meeting today.
In drawing up the proposed budget, several departments made cuts, including roughly 10 percent form the mayor’s office, Holland has said.
