Appeals judge seeks spot on Arkansas Supreme Court

An Arkansas Appeals Court judge is seeking a spot on the state Supreme Court that’s being vacated by a justice who announced he won’t seek re-election.

Judge Raymond Abramson on Monday announced he was running for a seat on the state Supreme Court next year. Abramson is running for the seat held by Justice Jim Gunter, who announced last week that he would not seek re-election.

Abramson practiced law for 34 years in Monroe County. He was appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe to the appeals court last year after Judge Price Marshall was confirmed as a federal district judge.

Abramson cannot run for election to the appeals post to which he was appointed.
