LITTLE ROCK A man was shot Wednesday night in Benton when he kicked in the door of a house to check on a friend who hadn't been heard from.
Police say it turned out the friend had only been asleep and, upon seeing his door being kicked in, opened fire.
It happened around 10:45 p.m. when 29-year-old Michael Moon went to 27-year-old Joshua Akers' home at 3096 Galloway Drive. Police say Akers' wife, Laura Akers, called Moon and told him she hadn't heard from her husband and was worried about him.
Moon reportedly rang the doorbell multiple times and banged on the door, but didn't get an answer.
"At this point, Laura asked for Moon to 'kick in the door because she feared something was wrong,'" police wrote in a statement.
But Joshua Akers was awakened by the noise and made his way to the door as it was being kicked in. He shot through the door and a single round hit Moon, police said.
Moon was taken to a Little Rock hospital. His condition wasn't known.
Authorities are still investigating. A message left with the Benton Police Department wasn't immediately returned.

Well, on seeing your door kicked in, I suppose you feel in deadly harms way. I really don't know how I would act in such circumstances. I guess my decision on what to do would be when such act was happening. I hope the man that got shot will be ok.
