Suspect accused in Jacksonville firefighter's death charged in Ohio

— A man who police say drove around barriers at a Jacksonville accident scene and fatally struck a firefighter has reportedly been charged in an assault with a vehicle in Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Thursday that Bryce Allen, 47, was charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence in an Oct. 13 incident at a Columbus, Ohio hospital. A message left with the Columbus Police Department was not immediately returned.

An Ohio television station shows photos of the hospital scene from October and an image of Allen.

Allen was arrested last month after he drove into an accident scene on State Highway 161 in Jacksonville and struck two firefighters and a police officer, authorities have said. Jacksonville Fire Department Capt. Donald Jones died from his injuries.

Earlier this month, authorities described Allen as a "person of interest" in an incident in Columbus in which a man driving a black Cadillac hit a hospital security guard with his vehicle after getting into an argument with a valet driver. The guard reportedly fired his weapon into the Cadillac, but the driver drove off from the scene.

Allen is being held at the Pulaski County jail on charges including second-degree murder and two counts of criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder.
