It is a theme of this space, a recurring public service, an occasional sounding of an alarm. It is that our rush to red-state madness risks turning Arkansas into the worst possible blend. That would be of Alabama, with its race-based and religion-based intolerance and backwardness, and Oklahoma, with its frontier cowboy independence and meanness.
