Arkansas officials: Congressional hopeful too young

— Election officials say the Green Party’s nominee for a U.S. House seat in east Arkansas is too young to serve in Congress.

The secretary of state’s office on Wednesday notified the party and congressional nominee Jacob Holloway of the issue. Holloway is 24 according to the date of birth listed in paperwork he filled out when he filed. The U.S. Constitution says that congress members must be at least 25 years of age.

State Elections Director Martha Adcock asked Holloway and Party Chairwoman Rebekah Kennedy to respond within seven days with information on his qualifications or what steps the party will take regarding his candidacy.

A spokesman for the secretary of state’s office says unless Holloway withdraws his candidacy it can’t be removed from the ballot without a court order.
