Democratic congressional hopeful Gene Jeffress points to his bare-bones campaign operation as a sign that he knows how to win with limited resources in a sprawling 33-county district. Rival Q. Byrum Hurst says it shows that the longtime legislator is relying on political cronyism rather than reaching out to voters.

As the two Democrats near Tuesday’s primary runoff for the 4th Congressional District, they’re clashing more on background and style than policy or politics.

The winner will face Republican Tom Cotton, who won the May 22 primary outright.

They’re running for a seat that Republicans are confident they can win in November. Democratic Congressman Mike Ross announced last year he wouldn’t seek a seventh term representing the district, and its newly redistricted boundaries include traditionally Republican areas in northwest Arkansas.
