Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has announced the settlement of two cases involving the pharmaceutical company Abbot Laboratories.

McDaniel said Tuesday that Abbot will pay Arkansas a total of $3.03 million as part of a $1.6 billion multi-state settlement.

One case involves Abbots “off-label” marketing of the drug Depakote. McDaniel says the Federal Drug Administration has approved the drug for use in treating seizure disorders, mania associated with bipolar disorder and migraines. He said Abbot also marketed the drug for unapproved uses — including schizophrenia, agitated dementia and autism.

The second settlement involves allegations of Medicaid fraud against Abbot.
