Pine Bluff man injured in railroad crossing attempt

A Pine Bluff man was injured early this morning after he attempted to cross a railroad track, police said.

Officers responded to a railroad crossing on Michigan Street around 3 a.m. and found Robert Wooten, 66. Wooten had suffered serious injuries after he attempted to cross an occupied railroad track, Pine Bluff police said.

According to an update from Union Pacific, the train was stopped on the tracks, and began to move again as Wooten crossed.

Wooten was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was taken into surgery.

Authorities are investigating the accident. There were no updates on Wooten's condition as of Friday afternoon.

Was he walking? Driving? Track was occupied with what? A train? Was the train moving? Were there lights and gates at the crossing? Or just signs? Terrible reporting.
