FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas football players Maudrecus Humphrey, Marquel Wade and Andrew Peterson were arrested Saturday, charged with felony residential burglary.
The three were booked into the Washington County Detention Center around noon Saturday after being arrested by University of Arkansas police.
According to the arrest report, the three stole multiple items - including laptops, DVDs and textbooks - and cash valuing $4,817 from university dorm rooms beginning May 1. Over the next seven days, UAPD received 10 reports of missing items from rooms in all four buildings of the Northwest Quads dormitory.
Surveillance camera video from May 2 shows all three walking the hallways of Northwest Quads, Building B and entering unlocked rooms, according to the report. On May 9, a clerk at the Campus Bookstore on Dickson Street told police the three men had regularly exchanged textbooks for cash.
Textbooks and other stolen property were recovered from Peterson's suite in the Northwest Quads, according to the report.
Humphrey and Peterson were each charged with nine counts of burglary, while Wade was charged with one count.
Humphrey and Wade, both 20-years-old, are wide receivers at Arkansas, while Peterson, 19, is a tight end. All three have hearings scheduled for Monday and have been suspended indefinitely from the Razorbacks' football team.
“We have high standards for our student-athletes and I expect them to conduct themselves appropriately,” Arkansas coach John L. Smith said in a statement. "Poor conduct and misbehavior will not be tolerated and is not what we expect from the University of Arkansas football program.”
Six different scholarship football players at Arkansas have been arrested in less than two months and five have been charged with felony offenses.
Offensive lineman Jason Peacock was arrested on March 16 and charged with felony theft of property; receiver Kane Whitehurst was arrested April 2 on drug possession charges; and linebacker Tyler Gilbert was arrested April 17 on charges of felony aggravated burglary.
Peacock was suspended but reinstated to the football team less than two weeks following his arrest, while Whitehurst and Gilbert were indefinitely suspended.

How about education and an end to bringing criminals into universities to play football?

Might be a good idea if the recruiting coaches and others do a little more checking into the backgrounds of some of these high school players that are potential recruits. Of course, some high schools do a very good job of "covering up" for their star players, too. Then, an assistant coach can't check deep into a potential recruits character: they don't have the time.

As long as Universities rely on sports to bring money into the school academics will fall by the wayside. They will continue to allow sports figures to have someone else take their exam so they can make passing grads; and they never seem to go to jail for all the laws they break. This has been going on at Fayetteville, as well as elsewhere, forever.

It will be interesting to see what Jeff Long does. He fired Bobby Petrino and he did not commit a crime. There can be no excuses, if convicted these players need to be expelled from the football program and from the University. We are not running a reform school here. Once the other players got a slap on the wrist, the floodgates were opened wide for more wrong doing.
It is very disheartening and disappointing but either we are not evaluating these players correctly when recruiting them or we are not teaching and guiding them correctly once here.
The Humphrey guy is a real disappointment since his father seemed liked a really good guy and Wade had a great career ahead of him. I heard from Texas sources that the other guy was a borderline situation.

You fools sound like you all are at a klan rally...code here is once again African-American athletes...BP didn't break any laws...what a joke that's not funny....but the sad part in all of this is that female or male athletes of color with a degree from U of A won't get hired by this medium which would keep them out the "ghetto.". Hire them then maybe...just maybe, they wouldn't have to do other things to have money n their pockets...why do athletes of color continue to go to this university knowing that someone like them will never interview them while they are at U of A...nuff said...

We should let them go since they are people of "color"; that would make things better wouldn't it Diversity? Code is African American athletes? No, reality is they are African American athletes. I guess the free education isn't enough for these 3.
