Officers responded about 4:55 p.m. to the KFC at 8220 Geyer Springs Road, where they found a man who had been shot in the shoulder. The man was taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Police spokesman Lt. C.P. Thomas said that two men entered the KFC and shot the victim while he was eating. The suspects fired three or four shots, Thomas said. The victim was not an employee of the restaurant.

Further circumstances of the shooting were unclear. Thomas said it was unknown whether the shooters knew the victim. It was "in question" whether restaurant surveillance cameras recorded the shooting, he said.

Police were searching the area for the gunmen late Wednesday afternoon though detailed descriptions of the men were unavailable.

Employees of the KFC declined to comment.

In Valero robbery, arrest swift, nearby

A man suspected of robbing a Little Rock gas station at knife-point Wednesday morning was arrested minutes after the robbery occurred.

Police responded at 5:25 a.m. to Valero at 10501 Stagecoach Road, where an employee told officers that a man wearing a white mask had entered the store and demanded money. The employee told investigators that the robber held what seemed to be a knife to his throat. The robber took cash from the register and fled.

While officers were interviewing the victim, a witness drove into the parking lot and said he'd seen someone running south toward a nearby apartment complex, according to a police incident report. Police searched the complex, Westwood Apartments at 10700 Stagecoach, and arrested Diavone Torrence about 5:30 a.m., according to the report.

Police reported that Torrence, 18, admitted to the robbery but denied using a knife. Officers found $132.25 in his shoes, the report says.

Torrence was charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property. He was being held at the Pulaski County jail in lieu of bail late Wednesday.
