Agency plans party for Clinton library

The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced 10 days of events in celebration of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library's 10th anniversary.

The center opened Nov. 18, 2004. The bureau is touting its celebration as "a decade of progress."

Celebratory events will begin Nov. 8 with a political cartoons exhibit at the Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theater. Subsequent events include the 100th birthday of Daisy Bates with Ernie Green, a member of the "Little Rock Nine" speaking; a River Market District block party; a tour of the Governor's Mansion; Clinton-related movies shown at Ron Robinson Theater; a "Science of the Saxophone" exhibit at the Museum of Discovery; and a special Clinton exhibit within the Dale Chihuly glass exhibit at the presidential library.

5K race to benefit Big Sisters group

The Little Rock Marathon will partner with the Corner Store company for a race this month that will benefit the national Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and Little Rock's Parks and Recreation Department.

The Corner Store Country Run is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 20 in front of War Memorial Stadium. The 5 kilometer (3.1-mile) course will wind through War Memorial Golf Course and features country-themed obstacles.

Participants are encouraged to dress in country attire. A free fair with food, refreshments, live music, carnival games and giveaways will follow the race. Registration is $30 per person or $75 for a family of four. Children under 8 are free. Participants can register online at www.CornerStore4U.com through next Thursday. A $5 discount will be given by registering at a Corner Store location.
