Little Rock police officers responded at 7:15 a.m. that day to a Mapco gas station at 5420 W. 12th St., where they found Wendel Giles shot in the face, stomach and hip, a police report said.

Giles was taken to UAMS Medical Center in stable condition. He told investigators that he had been shot by a man who tried to rob him behind an auto-parts store near the gas station, the police report states.

But Kyle Mansfield later told police that he shot Giles after Giles showed up at his apartment with stolen electronics he was looking to stash, the report states.

Mansfield told police that he and Giles argued because he didn't want to hide the stolen items. During the dispute, Giles pulled a gun, which Mansfield said he took away from Giles and then shot him, the report states.

Police reported that both men were initially suspects in the case. Giles had not been charged Friday.

But Mansfield, 22, was arrested Dec. 17 and charged with aggravated robbery and first-degree battery. He was convicted Sept. 4 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to court records.

An arrest warrant was issued for Morris the same day Mansfield was arrested. Details on Morris' suspected involvement in the robbery were unavailable late Friday. Giles is listed as a complainant in an arrest report connecting Morris to the shooting.

Morris had been locked up in the Ouachita River Correctional Unit in Malvern. He was convicted of aggravated assault in April after choking a police officer. The officer was trying to break up a bar fight in Fayetteville on New Year's Eve when he was attacked by Morris.

On Thursday, Morris was transferred from the Arkansas Department of Correction to the Pulaski County jail to face his latest charge. He remained there late Friday.

Mansfield was in the jail Friday awaiting a different transfer -- to prison.
