SEARCY -- The twenty-fifth opening today of Galloway Female College in this city was the most notable in the history of this institution, 200 young women from Arkansas and adjacent states being present. Fear was felt for the safe return of three Galloway teachers, who spent the summer in study in English, French and German conservatories, but each of these members of the faculty has returned during the past week and assumed charge of their departments.

• The Arkansas State Medical Board asked Dr. Grady Hill Jr of El Dorado on Thursday to voluntarily surrender his federal permit to dispense drugs for six months. The action came after the board found Hill guilty of violating the Medical Practices Act. The board charged Hill was "grossly negligent or ignorant malpractice" for over-prescribing addictive drugs to 12 patients. Some patients not only were receiving large amounts of a narcotic, they were being given more than one addicting drug at a time, board investigator Jim Moss said.

• Attorneys for presidential candidate Ralph Nader asked the Arkansas Supreme Court on Tuesday to overturn an order removing the candidate's name from Arkansas' Nov. 2 ballot, saying that the order was based on an unconstitutional interpretation of state law. Nader's attorneys from the North Little Rock firm of Hilburn, Calhoon, Harper, Pruniski & Calhoun also argued that Pulaski County Circuit Judge Timothy Fox abused his authority in issuing the order. Fox's order came Monday, 10 days after the state Democratic Party asked him to remove Nader's name from the Arkansas ballot. The Democrats said Nader's campaign broke state law in collecting the signatures needed on a petition to place his name on the ballot.
