As speaker at Clinton School, ex-first daughter to be 1,000th

Chelsea Clinton will be the 1,000th speaker in the Clinton School of Public Service's lecture series, the school announced Wednesday.

Clinton will speak at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 as part of a tour to promote her first book, It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired and Get Going. The book, which encourages young adults to make a difference in their communities and the world, is to be released Sept. 15.

Clinton is the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Her appearance is part of the Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series, sponsored by the Clinton Foundation, the Clinton School and AT&T.

The Clinton School began hosting lecturers in September 2004, starting with former Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan. Since then, the school has hosted a variety of speakers, including television personalities, Nobel laureates, authors, politicians and astronauts.

The lectures are free and open to the public. They also can be viewed online.

Since late July, the school's Twitter page has been counting down its top lectures in anticipation of the announcement of Chelsea Clinton as the 1,000th speaker.

Dean Skip Rutherford said he has always been impressed with the people who visit to the school to speak and that the benefits from those lectures extend into the community.

In the more than 10 years of lectures, "the series has enriched our students' academic experiences, provided them unprecedented access with leaders and decision-makers, and given the public, in person or via Internet, the opportunity to participate in free and special experiences," he said.
