MovieStyle: Oscar bait

In a short story published in 1926, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, "Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me.”

In Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher, Steve Carell plays a very different sort of man, John Eleuthere du Pont, the multimillionaire murderer who was the chief patron of the U.S. Olympic wrestling team in the ’80s and ’90s. Carell has picked up a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his work — our Philip Martin gives us his take on the film in this week's MovieStyle.

Martin also writes about the Clint Eastwood-directed Best Picture nominee American Sniper, another purportedly true story about the most prolific marksman in U.S. military history, Chris Kyle (played by a beefed-up Bradley Cooper, who also picked up an Oscar nod for his work).

Also opening this week are the cyber thriller Blackhat, the children's fable Paddington, Kevin Hart's latest The Wedding Ringer and the inspirational Spare Parts.
