For Bill Clinton, a salute at Atlanta's King Center

WASHINGTON -- Former President Bill Clinton received The King Center's 2015 Salute to Greatness Award on Saturday night at a black-tie gala in Atlanta.

The award goes to someone who has demonstrated a commitment to the principles and philosophy of Martin Luther King Jr. It was created by his widow, Coretta Scott King. The King Center is a National Historic Site that houses King's papers and archives from the civil-rights movement.

Kaiser Permanente was also scheduled to be recognized, with CEO Bernard Tyson accepting the award.

IN WASHINGTON

U.S. Rep. Steve Womack of the 3rd District was appointed to the House Budget Committee on Wednesday. He was also selected for the House Appropriations Committee's subcommittees on Defense; Financial Services and General Government; and Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies.

Also Wednesday, Womack gave a tour of the U.S. Capitol to the Cadet Leadership Team from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton joined the International Republican Institute's board of directors on Thursday. According to its website, the nonprofit is focused on spreading "freedom and democracy worldwide by helping political parties to become more issue-based."

Cotton and U.S. Rep. French Hill of the 2nd District are scheduled to speak at the Little Rock March for Life this afternoon at the state Capitol.

They are both also scheduled to attend the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission's Interfaith Prayer Breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mark Baptist Church Family Life Center, 5722 W. 12th St., Little Rock.

Hill also plans to participate in the commission's day of service at the Benton Events Center, 17332 Interstate 30, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Hill was selected for the House Financial Services Committee's subcommittees on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises and on Oversight and Investigations.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman of the 4th District was selected for the House Natural Resources Committee's subcommittees on Public Lands and Environmental Regulations and on Oversight and Investigations. He was also appointed vice chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology's Subcommittee on Environment.

Westerman gave his first speech on the House floor Wednesday, speaking against government overreach.

SUNDAY SHOW

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is scheduled to appear on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos to discuss his new book, God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy.

The show airs at 8 a.m. on KATV in Little Rock and on KAIT in Jonesboro. It appears at 9 a.m. on KHBS in Fort Smith and 10:30 a.m. on KHOG in Rogers.

INTERNS

U.S. Sen. John Boozman is looking for college students to intern in his Washington and district offices over the summer.

Students interning in a state office are required to receive academic credit; credits aren't required for the Washington interns. Priority is given to Arkansas students who have completed at least two years of college.

All internships are unpaid.

MAYORS CONFERENCE

Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan, Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola and Pine Bluff Mayor Debe Hollingsworth are scheduled to attend the United States Conference of Mayors' winter meeting in Washington from Wednesday through Friday, according to the conference.
