Past burglar held in 16 new break-ins

A Benton man was arrested Thursday, accused in 16 residential and commercial burglaries, according to a news release from Benton police.

Lonnie Hileman, 47, was found at a residence on Military Road in Benton and taken to the Saline County jail, police said.

He is charged with 14 counts of residential burglary, two counts of commercial burglary, eight counts of unlawful transfer of stolen property, criminal mischief, theft of property and theft of scrap metal.

According to the release, Hileman was on parole at the time of his arrest. Court records show he pleaded guilty in 2012 to a charge of residential burglary and was sentenced to 144 months in prison. In 2006, he pleaded guilty to residential burglary and theft of property and was sentenced to probation.

The news release said more charges are possible.
