4 die in state crashes over a two-day period

The Arkansas State Police reported that three people were killed in crashes on state roadways Thursday, and an elderly Cabot woman died in a crash Wednesday.

Jason Hogue, 25, of El Dorado died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle, head-on crash in Union County, according to state police.

Hogue was driving east on U.S. 82 in a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a westbound 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, state police reported. The crash occurred at 6:25 a.m. near the highway's intersection with Urbana Road.

The driver of the Suburban, Eric Abeyta, 26, of Smackover was injured in the crash and was transported to the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado, according to state police.

Conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the collision, state police reported.

Also Thursday, an Atkins woman died in a crash on Interstate 40 in Pope County, state police said.

Monica Lenhart, 31, was driving west on the interstate in a 2003 Ford Explorer when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert, ejecting Lenhart, according to state police. The crash occurred at 4:50 a.m. at mile marker 85 between Russellville and Pottsville.

State police reported that it was raining, and the road was wet at the time of the accident.

Elsewhere Thursday, state police said, a Mountain Home man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Fulton County.

Luke Allen Gessner, 23, of Mountain Home was driving east on U.S. 62 in a 1994 Dodge Ram when he lost control of the truck and it ran off the road, state police reported. The truck then crossed over the highway, entered the westbound ditch and hit a culvert before overturning, becoming airborne and striking a tree.

The crash occurred at 4:50 a.m. a half-mile west of Salem, state police said.

According to state police, it was raining, and the road was wet at the time of the crash.

State police also reported that a Cabot woman died Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 67-167 in Pulaski County.

Dorothy Harris, 91, of Cabot was a passenger in a 2003 Chevrolet traveling north on the highway when the vehicle struck the rear of a 2005 Freightliner that was entering the highway from the right shoulder, state police said.

The crash occurred at 12:35 p.m. just north of Jacksonville at mile marker 12, according to state police.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Homer Harris, 84, of Cabot was injured and transported to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, state police said. The driver of the Freightliner, Nicky Fisher, 53, of Jonesboro, was not injured.

Conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the crash, state police reported.
