Authorities name boy killed in blaze

MORRILTON -- Authorities have identified a 4-year-old boy who died in a fire Sunday morning, the Conway County coroner said Thursday.

An obituary on Veasley Funeral Home & Cremations Inc.'s website gives the child's name as Jai'Shun Jerod Brockman Carter.

Morrilton police have said the child's grandfather and three other children escaped the burning duplex. The grandfather tried but couldn't get back inside the home to rescue Jai'shun, police said.

Coroner Jason McCoy said Thursday that authorities believe the child died of smoke inhalation. No one else was hurt, McCoy said.

Police believe the fire was accidental but are still investigating the cause, the coroner said.
