Bicycle-coordinator job open in LR

Little Rock's bicycle and pedestrian coordinator resigned earlier this month, leaving the part-time position open for applications.

The city doesn't yet have the job advertisement posted on its website, but it will be posted after the city works on updating the job description, City Manager Bruce Moore said Friday.

Jeremy Lewno had been the city's bicycle and pedestrian coordinator since the position was created in 2013. His last day was May 8. He informed officials two months ago that he would be leaving to focus more on his personal business, Moore said.

Lewno is the founder of Bobby's Bike Hike, the tour and rental venue in the River Market District. He did not return an email or voice message left on his cellphone.

Ed Cromwell Levy has taken over Lewno's role as chairman of the city's Bicycle Friendly Community Committee in an interim position. Levy had served as the committee's chairman from 2011 to 2013 until Lewno was hired.

Levy mentioned in an email to the committee Friday that he hoped the bicycle-pedestrian coordinator could be transformed into a full-time position. There isn't room in the city's budget to do that right now, Moore said, but the city does plan to keep the position in its part-time capacity.

"When we grow and develop, we want to ensure we are a bike-friendly and pedestrian-friendly municipality. We are looking for someone that has expertise in that area," Moore said. "Jeremy was leading our application process for the bike-friendly community designation. Really, the bike-ped coordinator looks at best practices across the country and makes recommendations and advises the city."
