Rape suspect gets January court date

FAYETTEVILLE — A man accused of having sex with a 12-year-old Springdale girl was given a new court date Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court.

Cristian Duran-Hernandez, 22, of 813 E. Huntsville Ave. in Springdale is charged with two counts of rape. He now has a Jan. 5 court date.

Duran-Hernandez told police when he was arrested Sept. 11 that he twice attempted to have sex with the girl, according to a police report.

Duran-Hernandez told police he performed sex acts with the girl, according to the report.

Duran-Hernandez told police he thought the girl was 14 years old, according to the report.

The girl’s mother suspected an inappropriate relationship between Duran-Hernandez and her daughter, and called police.

Duran-Hernandez was being held at the Washington County jail in lieu of a $35,000 bond and on a hold from another agency.

Duran-Hernandez has “no ties to Springdale” and is a flight risk, according to the report.
