Police beat: 2 hurt in gunfire at liquor store

A liquor store owner and another man were critically injured when the two exchanged gunfire at the business Monday, the Pulaski County sheriff's office reported.

Deputies were called at 9:19 p.m. to 145th Street Package Store at 4605 E. 145th St. Cash was strewn on the counter and the floor, according to a sheriff's office report. Deputies found Charles Tatum, 76, of Little Rock, and Jodeci Allen, 23, of North Little Rock, lying on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both men were taken to UAMS Medical Center for treatment. They remained hospitalized Tuesday. Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Carl Minden said the men were in critical condition.

Deputies recovered a small-caliber revolver from the liquor store west of Arkansas 365 near Tafton.

Minden said Allen faces a charge of aggravated robbery.

An investigation is ongoing.

Police seek robber of ice cream shop

Little Rock police were investigating after a masked man robbed an ice cream shop at gunpoint Monday.

Officers responded at 2:21 p.m. to the Chenal Park West shopping center at 13000 Chenal Parkway. A Baskin Robbins employee and two witnesses said an armed man had walked into the business and demanded money, according to a police report. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash, told witnesses not to look at him and fled through a back door.

No injuries were reported.

Officers viewed surveillance footage of the holdup and searched the area, according to the report. No arrests were made.

The robber is described as black. He wore dark clothing, a dark hat and a dark mask.

2 given ride, take SUV at gunpoint

A Little Rock man was robbed of his vehicle Monday by two strangers he'd given a ride, police reported.

Jerry Clay, 61, said he picked up two men in the area of West Roosevelt Road and South Arch Street about 2 p.m., according to a police report. One of the men pulled out a revolver, and the two forced Clay out of his blue 2003 Ford Explorer.

Clay suffered minor injuries when the men threw him on the ground, but he declined medical treatment at the scene, the report states.

The stolen sport utility vehicle was last seen traveling south toward Interstate Park.

Descriptions of the robbers were unavailable.

Bandit took $25, iPhone, police told

A man was robbed at gunpoint outside a southwest Little Rock shopping center Monday, police reported.

Officers were called about 1:15 p.m. to Masoud Center at 4918 Baseline Road. Larry Weatherford, 64, said he'd been approached by a man in the parking lot, according to a police report. The man pushed Weatherford into a trailer, held a gun to his stomach, and took an iPhone and $25.

The robber fled north on Stanton Road, the report states.

No injuries were reported in the holdup.

The robber is described as black, 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He wore black pants, a white T-shirt and white tennis shoes.

Post-stop crash ends in DWI arrest

Little Rock police arrested a man on a charge of driving while intoxicated Sunday after he crashed into a pole after a traffic stop, according to an arrest report.

Officer Darius Counts pulled over Fernando Lucero, 65, about 5 p.m. at 37 Don Drive off North Alexander Road. He issued Lucero a citation for careless and prohibited driving and left the scene, the report states.

But as the officer drove away, he looked in his rear-view mirror and reported seeing Lucero crash into the pole. Counts turned back.

"When I made contact a second time I could smell intoxicants," he wrote in the report.

Police said Lucero of Sherwood's blood alcohol content was o.155. The legal driving limit is 0.08.

Lucero was not listed on the Pulaski County jail roster Tuesday.
