Mary Rutherford Jennings, 32, will be working with the media between now and the state's March 1 Democratic presidential primary.

A 2002 graduate of Central High School, Jennings is the daughter of University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service Dean Skip Rutherford.

Rutherford, who has known Clinton since the early 1970s, volunteered on Bill Clinton's 1992 and 1996 campaigns, and was chairman of the William J. Clinton Foundation.

Jennings' first day was Monday.

Before returning to Arkansas, Jennings worked as deputy communications director for Correct the Record in Washington, D.C.

The organization describes itself, on its website, as "a strategic research and rapid response team designed to defend Hillary Clinton from baseless attacks."

Jennings is a 2006 graduate of Tulane University and a 2009 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

In a written statement, Hillary for America deputy national spokesman Jesse Ferguson praised Jennings.

"We're excited to have Mary join our team because she knows the state and is committed to the type of grass-roots campaign we're running in Arkansas," he said. "Our campaign will be tireless in making sure Arkansas families know Hillary Clinton has the toughness and experience to stand up to the Republicans and get real results for Arkansas [families]."

The former secretary of state, former U.S. senator, former Arkansas first lady and former U.S. first lady won Arkansas' 2008 Democratic presidential primary, capturing 70 percent of the vote, compared with Barack Obama's 26 percent.

This time, she faces U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
