Michael Gordon Fair, 59, pleaded guilty Friday in circuit court to rape, a felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 40 years or life imprisonment.

Fair was arrested Nov. 14, 2015. A woman reported she was 8 years old and lived in Rogers when Fair began to sexually abuse her, according to a probable cause affidavit. The woman said the abuse stopped when she was 17.

Police also obtained a voice mail where Fair was recorded apologizing to the woman for the abuse, the affidavit states.

The woman wasn't in court Friday morning.

"She is relieved that this chapter in her life is behind her," chief deputy prosecutor Stuart Cearley said.

Fair was sentenced to 25 years in state prison. He must serve 70 percent of the sentence before he'll be eligible for parole. Fair must abide by a suspended-sentence agreement for 15 years after his release from prison.

He was given 255 days of jail credit for the time he spent in the Benton County jail awaiting trial.

Fair will be required to register as a sex offender and must pay $2,120 in court costs.
