WEST MEMPHIS -- Two people are charged with first-degree murder in the shooting of a West Memphis man during a disagreement near a church Tuesday, authorities said.
Justin East, 25, and Nicola Moore, 35, are also charged with fleeing after they led police on a pursuit, and with tampering with physical evidence, said Capt. Joe Baker, division commander with the West Memphis Police Department.
Officers responded to a call of a man shot at 714 Ingram Blvd. near the Mid-South Worship Center at 10:11 a.m. Tuesday. Police found Dedrick Meadows, 40, with a gunshot wound in his abdomen, Baker said.
Meadows was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he died.
Detectives noticed a white Chevrolet Tahoe leaving the area at high speed, and officers stopped the vehicle after a short chase, Baker said.
East later told detectives that he had shot Meadows after an ongoing dispute. East also told police that he threw a handgun out of his vehicle's window during the pursuit.
Moore was charged with the same offenses because she was a passenger in East's vehicle, Baker said.
The two will be arraigned today in West Memphis District Court, Baker said.
