NLR police arrest 1 in bank robbery

Police arrested one man in the robbery of a Bank of America branch in North Little Rock on Friday, according to a statement from the North Little Rock Police Department.

Police were called shortly after 9:30 a.m. to the Bank of America at 4103 East Broadway. Police received reports that a black man with a heavy build entered the bank and displayed a handgun while demanding money, according to a news release from the department.

According to the release, the man left with an undisclosed amount of money.

A photograph of the robber was released and a short time later officers were called to a house on North I Street where a witness said a man matching that description was hiding under a house. Jevon Cowans was arrested and charged with criminal trespass, theft of property and aggravated robbery. He remained at Pulaski County jail Friday night.

This is the second bank robbery in the area in a week.

On Wednesday, police said, a man entered the U.S. Bank branch at 4311 East Broadway in North Little Rock, demanded money and falsely indicated he had a weapon. Police arrested Henry Wayne Brooks, 55, in that robbery.

Shot at by robber, victim tells police

Jacksonville police arrested a man Friday accused of firing two shots at a fleeing victim, according to an arrest report.

Jimmy Smith Jr., 25, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Friday and charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of criminal mischief.

The victim, Dennis Taylor, told police he was walking when Smith stopped a white car in front of him and ordered him to the ground, according to the report. Taylor acted as though he were complying and Smith bent down to get his phone, Taylor told police.

According to the report, Taylor told police that, as he ran away, Smith fired two shots -- one while he was fleeing and another after he ran around a building.

Police later found Smith, who matched the description of the shooter, in the bathroom of an apartment at Timberwood Apartments, at 207 S. Hospital Drive in Jacksonville, according to the report.

Smith was not listed on the Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Friday night.

Man arrested after drugs found in NLR

North Little Rock police arrested a Sherwood man Friday after officers found methamphetamine, oxycontin and other drugs in his residence, according to an arrest report.

John Garner, 34, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, along with multiple other counts related to drugs and drug paraphernalia, the report said.

Police conducted a search at Garner's residence, according to the report, and found 8.2 grams of methamphetamine, 2.9 grams of oxycontin, 1.3 grams of clonazepam and 0.6 gram of marijuana. Police also found drug paraphernalia, the report said.

Garner was not listed on the Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Friday night.
