Police: Little Rock man says he was shot after confronting man near his vehicle

A Little Rock man was shot outside his girlfriend's apartment after hearing a noise near his vehicle and confronting a man there early Thursday morning, according to the Little Rock Police Department.

Joshua Phillips, 37, told police he was in the home, located at 416 N. Pierce St., when he heard someone outside by his car around 2:10 a.m., according to the report. Phillips said he looked out the window and saw a black man between the ages of 20 to 26 years old inside a vehicle outside the apartment complex, police said.

Phillips went onto his balcony to confront the man and saw he was holding an object in his hand, which Phillips could not identify at first, police said. According to Phillips, he instructed the man to drop his belongings, and the man refused and began shooting, police said.

The man then took off southbound on Markham Street, Phillips told police.

Phillips' girlfriend called the police, and when officers arrived, they found him lying on the kitchen floor with gunshot wounds to his left knee and right foot, according to the report. He was transported to UAMS Medical Center for treatment, police said. The report stated that UAMS personnel informed police that Phillips was in stable condition.

Police searched the area but could not locate the subject, according to the report.
