Horn player Blanchard, band to perform at South on Main

Terence Blanchard, featuring The E-Collective, will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main in Little Rock. Tickets are $58.75, $56.75 and $28.25.

Blanchard, a New Orleans born-and-raised trumpeter and multiple Grammy Award winner, began his solo recording career in 1991. He has composed more than 50 soundtracks and more than 30 albums. His latest album, Breathless, on Blue Note Records, is a fusion of funk, R&B and blues sounds.

The E-Collective consists of Fabian Almazan on keyboards, Charles Altura on guitar, Donald Ramsey on bass and Oscar Seaton on drums.

Blanchard and his band are performing for the final show in the 2016-2017 Jazz Series sponsored by the Oxford American magazine.

The Wildflower Revue will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the Central Arkansas Library System's Ron Robinson Theater in Little Rock. Admission is $15.

Amy Garland Angel, Mandy McBryde and Bonnie Montgomery are the members of The Wildflower Revue. They are performing in support of a new self-titled album, released in January. The record is a collection of 10 original songs and three covers: Johnny Cash's "Bad News," Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer."

The concert is part of the Arkansas Sounds series.

Phil Vassar, a Nashville, Tenn., singer-songwriter, will present an evening of stories and music at 8 p.m. Saturday in Wildwood Mansion at The Delta School in Wilson. Admission is $75.

Vassar got his start writing songs for other artists, including Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Collin Raye and Alan Jackson. He was then signed to Arista Records, which released his debut self-titled album in 2000. He has since released more albums, the latest of which, American Soul, came out in 2016.
