Drillers pull away, turn back Travelers

The Arkansas Travelers lost their series opener to the Tulsa Drillers 8-1 on Monday night at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

It was the second consecutive game that the Travs lost 8-1. Arkansas lost to Springfield 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock.

Max Povse (3-1) took his first loss of the season. The Seattle Mariners' No. 9 prospect according to MLB.com allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings. He struck out three and walked three.

Tulsa led 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning and pulled away. The Drillers scored two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the eighth.

Edwin Rios led Tulsa, going 5 for 5 with four RBI. He had an RBI single in the third inning, a run-scoring double in the seventh and a two-run single in the eighth.

Drillers reliever Michael Johnson (1-0) allowed 1 hit and struck out 4 in 2 innings in relief of starter Scott Barlow.

The Travs' run came in the third inning. Chuck Taylor tripled to lead off the inning and scored on Tyler Marlette's groundout.

Taylor was 2 for 3 to lead the Travs, who were outhit 13-5.
