Senate GOP releases new try at health care

2 Republicans already announce ‘no’ votes

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine said Thursday that she opposes the new Senate health care proposal mainly because it reduces spending on Medicaid for the poor and disabled.

Republican leaders unveiled a new health care bill Thursday in their effort to repeal and replace the 2010 Affordable Care Act. They immediately lost two key Senate votes, leaving none to spare as Republicans look to move forward on the bill.

Sen. Ted Cruz , R-Texas, said Thursday that inclusion of his language in the proposed Senate health care bill that would let ... + Enlarge

Agree TT. The Cruz amendment has been analyzed by industry experts and will actually create financial hardship, either on the carriers or the insured since it essentially cherry-picks the pool. Got a pre-existing condition? Only one plan you can sign up for and it's expensive.
It's hanging on by a thread and that thread unravels each day. We'll see what the CBO score comes out to be next week. Unless it's radical improvement, you can write this off as yet another failure by the Republicans in Congress and Trump.
Saw yesterday Trump's claims that he's done more in 5 months than any president ever. Almost fell off the throne reading that sack of lies. He and Wowy are cut from the same mold, pathological liars.

I ve changed my mind on the health bill. We all die it is just a matter of when. The world is a cold place that owes you nothing, and just because we are in the 2nd decade of 21st century doesnt mean that civilization means we have to take care of the weak , the poor, the children or the elderly. The great plan , one of mystery and awe [ guess you could say shock an awe] already determined our destiny before the world was created.

we have deity representatives to pray at our funerals, funeral homes to put us in the ground, and doctors to declare we are dead, so dying is taken care of. The living is our duty so that is on us. Ancient Sparta used to leave deformed babies out to die so as not to weaken the society or be a burden on society, and as we know they were great warriors.

I wold also submit for your consideration that there is not one word or injunction on the Idol that was recently rearranged that refers to health care. Therefore, that must not be that important in the grand scheme of things [ certainly not as important as the injunction to not have the "THOUGHT" of wanting your neighbors ass or lawnmower or wife, all things he worked hard to obtain] .

Some on the left will refer to Nixon about wanting health care, but I remind them he also had something to do with EPA, which took away states rights run by gop to dirty our air and water so that the large medical and insurance industry could crate jobs jobs jobs, and now red state legislatures and Don Jr's dad wants to reverse this by bringing back the good old days-- whats in the water and air , you wont know what it is till you are dying, then being dead, you have no worries. Worry causes stress.

"You guys follow avowed communist Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, ..."
No, gohogs, we don't but ewe guise do. Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals were used by Dick Armey and others to organize the Tea Party movement from the top down. Many top leaders of Tea Party organizations, FreedomWorks for example, were well-versed and well-trained in Rules for Radicals.
Also, Saul Alinsky was not an avowed communist. He opposed communism and all other thought-suppressing rigid ideologies.
"... if you think you've got an inside track to absolute truth, you become doctrinaire, humorless, and intellectually constipated. The greatest crimes in history have been perpetrated by such religious and political and racial fanatics, from the persecutions of the Inquisition on down to Communist purges and Nazi genocide."
~Saul Alinsky
It would be funny that a bunch of humorless and doctrinaire and intellectually constipated right-wing extremist leaders bash the evils of Alinsky while humorlessly clinging to his set of rules ... if it wasn't so downright crazy. And why do they act that humorlessly crazy? Because they're freaking radicals, that's why.

WhododueDiligence says...

In 2008 or 2009 I began to notice Saul Alinsky and his "Rules for Radicals" appear repeatedly in news reports of Tea Party organizers. And I began hearing the repeated narrative that Barack Obama and this sick commie-loving agitator Alinsky were best buddies. That was the first I had heard of Saul Alinsky despite the fact that I had been in college during a time of unrest and agitation against "The Establishment" and the Vietnam War when Alinsky was still alive.
So I ran a search on Alinsky and found that he definitely wasn't humorless but on the other hand some of his agitation of agitated followers could be quite agitating. I found that Alinsky had died in 1972 when Obama was 11 years old and half a world away. And I found reports that Obama, who had taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago for more than a decade before he was elected to the US Senate, represented the type of "Establishment" power houses which Alinsky radically opposed.

"Alinsky WAS a communist, you don't know history..."
gohogs, I have read quite a few history books, mostly European and American history, and I'm quite certain you won't find evidence of your claim in any history book, at least not an authentic history book written by an objective historian.
"The thing about you liberals/progressives is you all call others liars while you engage in that very thing."
gohogs, have I ever called you a liar? Nope. Have you ever called me a liar? Yup. Sure looks like it. Who cares? Nope. Have I called others who post here liars. Not that I can recall. Liberals/progressives often indicate that we believe conservatives are mistaken--especially rigidly conservative extremists--but that doesn't mean we believe they're lying. More likely, we believe they're simply mistaken.
If I was lying about Alinsky, that would mean Alinsky was a communist and it would also mean that I knew he was a communist. But from what I have read about what Alinsky said about communism--which was nothing but disdainful toward communism and all other ideological "isms," it's clear to me that Alinsky wasn't a communist. And it's also exceedingly clear to me that Dick Armey--the powerful US congressman from Texas and later lobbyist and Tea Party organizer--wouldn't have been affiliated with a Tea Party group organized according to Alinsky's rules if Alinsky had actually been a communist. Alinsky believed he could inspire change through aggressive agitation and polarizing tactics. (I don't agree that those tactics are effective.) But Alinsky was not a communist. At least I have seen no evidence that he was from any reputable source.

wildblueyonder says...

Whodo: Alinsky was a "community organizer" and definitely a socialist which is a prelude to communism. Had he lived long enough he would have succeeded in the latter. Among his "pupils" were Bill and Hillary Clinton. In fact, Hillary wrote her thesis on Alinsky and was photographed with him (along with Bill). Barack Obama also embraced his techniques in his own "organizing" activities. He was anti-capitalist which is definitely un-American and threatens life in America as we know it. I don't recall your calling me a liar in and of yourself but your "associates" certainly have. Sorry if I happened to include you as doing so, I was making a generalized statement perhaps at the time. Liberal/progressives have their opinion, conservatives have another. The sad fact that the two parties cannot reconcile (to some extent) and come together for the good of the majority of Americans is indeed what's wrong with this country. I (and many others) endured Obama's policies for 8 years but it seems as if progressives can't "endure" Trump's for 6 MONTHS. Why is that? Is it because the Dems lost the election or just bitterness against Trump? He hasn't been charged with any crime yet the Dems have already found him guilty of "collusion" or even treason. It's a shame Americans can't find common ground to benefit the majority. We're all in this together, like it or not.

Posted 15 July 2017, 4:42 p.m. Suggest removal

WhododueDiligence says...

Yes, gohogs, I agree we're all in this together, like it or not. And I agree that Alinsky was a community organizer, and a labor-movement organizer, and that he had some socialist tendencies. But I disagree that he would have ever become a communist or any other kind of rigidly "constipated" ideologue. Socialism in the 1930s, when Alinsky was in young adulthood, was more acceptable than today because western civilization was in the midst of the Great Depression with unemployment approaching 25 percent and capitalism at that time didn't appear to be nearly as healthy as it is today.
And I definitely agree--especially considering the absolute horrors of World War 1 and the worldwide Great Depression and then again in World War 2--with this undeniably true statement of yours: It's a shame Americans can't find common ground to benefit the majority. In American history it has been moderate leaders--definitely not extremists--who have led America to that common ground.
