1 MAN OVERBOARD!

The annual World Famous Championship Cardboard Boat Races on Saturday in Heber Springs -- at Sandy Beach on Greers Ferry Lake -- take on a superhero cast as participants decide, "DC vs. Marvel," in decorating their boats. Ranging from simple rafts to ships, entirely of corrugated cardboard, they must not only float but complete four heats around a 200-yard course. Races begin at 10 a.m., with timed heats for children and adults; awards go to the boats that best combine innovative engineering with artistic design, to the team with the greatest spirit and crowd involvement -- and the Titanic Award, of course, for the boat with the most dramatic sinking. Daylong activities also include a treasure dig, a watermelon-eating contest and a volleyball tournament. Visit heber-springs.com.
