Arkansas man killed, woman hurt after SUV hits tree

A 66-year-old man was killed and a 64-year-old woman was injured after their vehicle struck a tree off an Arkansas road Tuesday morning, state police said.

Warren Grogan was driving west on U.S. 64 through White County in a 2010 Mercury SUV when the vehicle left the road near the highway's intersection with U.S. 67 about 7:15 a.m., according to a preliminary crash report. The SUV then reportedly hit a tree.

Authorities said the Beebe resident was killed in the wreck. Martha Grogan, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, the report stated.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 439 people have died in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary state police data.
