$22.9 million I-430 on-ramp from Cantrell opens today

A new $22.9 million Interstate 430 on-ramp designed to alleviate congestion at Cantrell Road in west Little Rock is scheduled to open today, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Westbound motorists on Cantrell Road, also called Arkansas 10, wanting to go north on I-430 no longer will have to make a left turn across eastbound traffic to use the loop ramp. Instead, they will stay right in the outside lane to directly access the new on-ramp, the department said.

Motorists intending to travel north on I-430 should merge into the farthest outside right lane as early as the traffic signal at River Ridge Road, the department said.

A temporary traffic camera has been installed in vicinity of the new ramp and is available for viewing on the department's traveler information site, IDriveArkansas.com, to allow motorists to review the new traffic pattern before using the interchange.

As the ramp opens, current estimates are that the remaining components of the project should be complete by late December, the department said.
