The Saline and Pulaski county election commissions certified sales-tax election results Friday from Tuesday's special election in the city of Alexander, in which voters approved a tax increase.
Alexander is in both Pulaski and Saline counties.
Saline County voters passed the tax with 54 votes for and 51 against. The Pulaski County tax was approved 5 votes to 4.
The 1 percentage point increase in the city's sales and use tax will raise the city's sales tax from 2 percent to 3 percent. The new tax revenue will go toward the city's general operations. The tax takes effect Jan. 1.
