Jimmie Vaughan and band's rocking blues comes to NLR

Blues rock singer and acclaimed guitarist Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt-a-Whirl Band will perform at 7 p.m. today at the Center for Humanities and Arts at the University of Arkansas at Pulaski Tech in North Little Rock. Ticket prices range from $39 to $125.

Vaughan, the older brother of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, first became noted for his work in his Austin, Texas, based band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, which he performed with from 1979-89, releasing seven albums, before leaving the band. He released a duo album (Family Style) with his brother, along with five solo albums and a duo album with Omar Kent Dykes of Omar & the Howlers.

He has won four Grammy Awards, the most recent of which was in 2001 for traditional blues album for Do You Get the Blues? In 2010, he released the album, Plays Blues, Ballads & Favorites, and followed that with his most recent release, Plays More Blues, Ballads & Favorites, a year later.

Brasher, a native of North Carolina, grew up in Chicago and now is based in Atlanta. She cites as her influences The Beatles, Pop Staples and Bobbie Gentry and her contralto voice has been compared to Mahalia Jackson and Julie London.

Thorn, who calls himself the second most-famous musician from Tupelo, Miss., (although he named his record label Perpetual Obscurity Records) tried his hand at boxing before deciding music was less stressful. He has released seven albums, the most recent of which, Too Blessed to Be Stressed, came out in August 2014.

Ward Davis will perform at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission prices range from $15 to $45.
