NLR man faces

DWI, drug charge

Officers responding to a crash in central Arkansas on Tuesday night found a man passed out in his pickup with an open bottle of whiskey in the vehicle's center console, according to an arrest report.

The Sherwood Police Department arrived shortly before 9 p.m. at a wreck in the area of North Hills Boulevard and Arkansas 107, near The Greens At North Hills golf course.

An officer noted in the report that 55-year-old Jerry G. Cox of North Little Rock was found "passed out" behind the wheel of a pickup, and the vehicle was still pressed against the vehicle in front of it.

According to the report, the officer observed an open bottle of Fireball whiskey in the truck's center console and a "sealed beer" between Cox's legs.

The officer woke Cox up, who reportedly didn't know that he'd been involved in a crash. Cox was arrested and taken to the Sherwood Police Department, where a bag of methamphetamine was found in his wallet, police said.

Records show he was booked into the Pulaski County jail shortly after midnight Wednesday and remained there that afternoon, with no bail set.

He faces multiple charges, including DWI, possession of a controlled substance, careless driving and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

LR man arrested

after cyclist hit

A Little Rock man faces an aggravated assault charge, accused of hitting a cyclist with his vehicle, authorities said.

Officers arrested Brandon Jeremy Held, 27, near the intersection of Zeuber and Fletcher roads, in southeastern Pulaski County, about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers spoke with a man who said he was riding his bicycle along Zeuber Road when he was attacked by two dogs, a report said. The cyclist told police he placed his bicycle between himself and the dogs to keep from being bitten. The dogs' owner, a 33-year-old woman, reportedly approached and told the cyclist that "my dogs are not going to bite your punk a**."

The cyclist told police he sprayed the dogs with his water bottle and continued to ride east on Zeuber Road when he heard a vehicle approaching quickly from behind. The vehicle struck him from the rear, knocking him off his bike. The victim said a man, later identified as Held, stepped out of the vehicle with a machete and threatened to kill him, prompting him to run into the woods and call authorities.

The cyclist reportedly had minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene. Damage to his bicycle was estimated at $6,000.

Held was arrested and taken to the Pulaski County jail, but he was not listed on the inmate roster Wednesday.
