1 dead after wreck involving 18-wheeler on Arkansas highway; car's driver ran stop sign, police say

A 24-year-old who ran a stop sign on an Arkansas highway was killed Monday morning when his vehicle was hit by a Peterbilt truck, state police say.

Anthony Hibbing of Campbell, Mo., was driving south in a 2006 Ford Focus on Arkansas 62 shortly after 6:30 a.m. when he traveled through the road's intersection with Arkansas 35 without stopping, according to a preliminary crash report.

Authorities wrote that Hibbing's car was then struck by a 2006 Peterbilt headed north on Arkansas 35, and he sustained fatal injuries. No one else was reported hurt.

Conditions were said to be clear and dry at the time of the wreck.

At least 395 people have died on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary state police data.
