64-year-old killed after SUV overturns on Arkansas highway, police say

A 64-year-old woman was killed and another person hurt in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning on an Arkansas highway, police say.

The crash happened around 7:05 a.m. as Pamela Sue Reed of Lincoln was traveling north on Arkansas 59 in Washington County, according to a report.

Police say a southbound Dodge Journey driven by 26-year-old Ruth N. Santos-Hernandez of Westville, Okla., struck Reed’s Chevrolet Tahoe on the highway near its intersection with Arkansas 244, which is about 8 miles south of Siloam Springs.

Reed was fatally hurt. Santos-Hernandez also suffered injuries in the crash, the report states.

The impact caused Reed’s SUV to travel off the highway’s east side before it re-entered traffic and overturned, authorities said.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear and dry.

Reed’s death was one of at least 397 recorded so far this year on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary figures.
