State index surges all but 2 stocks rise

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, jumped 5.47 to 350.84 on Tuesday.

"The major averages advanced for a second day as geopolitical tensions and concerns over Hurricane Irma eased," said Bob Williams, senior vice president and managing director of Simmons First Investment Group Inc. in Little Rock.

All but two stocks gained ground.

Total volume for the index was 20.7 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
