Arkansas man fatally struck by pickup while walking along U.S. highway

A 59-year-old Arkansas man died hours after he was struck by a pickup Saturday night in Warren, Arkansas State Police said.

Around 9 p.m., Percy L. Gavin Jr. was walking west near the fog line of U.S. 278B when he was struck by a westbound 2000 Chevy pickup, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Gavin was taken by helicopter to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, where he died from his injuries around 11:30 p.m.

The pickup driver was not listed as being hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

At least 344 people have died in crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
