A Pulaski County sheriff's deputy resigned Wednesday, three days after he was arrested on multiple charges stemming from accusations that he hit a man in the face during an argument.
Daniel Cantwell, who worked as a patrol deputy with the sheriff's office, faces second-degree battery, first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree assault charges.
Shortly after 1:07 a.m. Sunday, deputies from the Saline County sheriff's office responded to a call from 1131 Brookhaven Court in rural Saline County for a report of "two males fighting and other people arguing," according to an arrest report.
The complainant, Allen Craig, 45, reportedly said Cantwell had followed him to his vehicle after an argument and hit him in the face. The blow caused a "severe laceration" under the man's left eye, and emergency medical personnel said there could be an injury to his eye, the report said.
Cantwell was under investigation by the Professional Standards Unit of the Pulaski County sheriff's office, according to a news release.
