Knocked to ground by thief in central Arkansas Wal-Mart, 85-year-old woman tells police

Authorities say an 85-year-old woman was knocked to the ground during a theft at a central Arkansas Wal-Mart on Monday.

The woman told officers it happened around 10:25 a.m. at a store on Interstate 30 in Benton. According to a report from Benton police, a man pulled her purse from a grocery basket, knocking the basket over and pushing the woman to the ground.

Wal-Mart staff said they saw a black male wearing a red shirt and blue jeans run from the store and get into a gray Chevrolet pickup, according to the report.

Later that day, the vehicle’s owner told officers she had been returning headphones at the store with some friends, when one friend ran out of the store with the stolen purse.

She said the boy, who was wearing a red shirt and blue pants, was between 12 and 15 years old. She told officers that she had dropped him off at a residence on Baseline Road in Little Rock earlier that day, though she did not give an exact address, the report said.

As of Friday afternoon, Benton police said, no arrests had been made.
