The war against straws

Under a new law passed in Santa Barbara, Calif., this July, restaurant employees can face misdemeanor charges for handing out plastic straws to customers. The first offense is a written warning, but if workers are caught violating the law a second time, they can face up to six months in jail or up to a $1,000 fine.

Why not just eliminate them altogether? Why is that not presented as an option by the idiot Isom? Wouldn’t eliminating straws altogether save businesses the most money? We don’t get a straw when we buy a cup of coffee. The lid has a little peel-back tab that we simply peel back to create an opening from which to drink. Why not simply use that lid type on cold drinks and eliminate any need for straws.
