System to bring 'thin glaze of ice' to part of Arkansas this weekend, forecasters say

Light freezing rain is expected across much of northern Arkansas this weekend, bringing the potential for icy roads, according to the National Weather Service.

A system is set to bring rain statewide Friday evening through Saturday, meteoroglist Dennis Cavanaugh of the agency’s North Little Rock office said.

High temperatures Friday will be in the upper 50s and low 60s, with lows that day in the mid-40s.

Cavanaugh said precipitation is forecast to change over to freezing ran across the state’s north Saturday night as temperatures fall below freezing.

Icing will most likely be confined to elevated roads and surfaces because of warmer ground temperatures, meteorologists said.

“Amounts are expected to remain light at this time, but confidence in amounts is low,” according to the latest advisory.

At least a “thin glaze of ice” is currently forecast in northern Arkansas. Elsewhere, only rain is expected Saturday night through Sunday morning, according to the weather service.

The “speed of falling temperatures” and the “redevelopment of rainfall” could result in changes to the outlook, Cavanaugh said.
