FULL OUTLOOK: Snow in forecast for portions of Arkansas, weather service says

Light, accumulating snowfall is possible Friday across portions of Arkansas as much colder air re-enters the state, forecasters said.

The best chances for winter weather will be across the state’s eastern half, including Little Rock, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency’s North Little Rock office said up to 0.6 inches of light snow is forecast in northeast Arkansas. Other areas south and west may see a dusting or no wintry precipitation at all.

Ahead of the colder air, rainfall is set to saturate much of the state Thursday.

Gusty winds associated with the system will create the potential for hazardous conditions on bodies of water and for certain motorists, the weather service cautioned.

On Thursday night, snowfall chances are in place for much of Arkansas. By Friday morning, the forecast calls for the bulk of winter weather to shift into the state’s east.

Forecasters said accumulations are not expected to be significant but “may still be enough to cause some travel concerns on area highways.”

In a tweet, the North Little Rock office posted a photo of a storm outlook and a bottle of milk, playing off what is often viewed as one of essential items to have on hand in inclement weather.

“Dairy we say snow?” the agency posed. “Use as an emergency supply for upcoming snow not anticipated.”

Colder air will linger throughout the weekend and into next week, bringing the potential for another round of winter weather.

“Stay tuned,” the weather service said.
