Sunday crashes kill 2 Arkansans

Two Arkansas men died in separate highway crashes Sunday, according to preliminary reports from Arkansas State Police.

A 24-year-old man from Springdale died Sunday night after his vehicle crossed the centerline of a U.S. highway and hit two other vehicles, authorities said.

Albert Mellow was driving a 1995 Toyota west on U.S. 62 shortly before 9 p.m. when his vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes, according to a state police report. It then hit the left front of an eastbound 2011 Chevrolet before spinning and striking the front of another eastbound Chevrolet, state police said.

Mellow suffered fatal injuries. The report said two other people were hurt, but it didn't identify them or indicate the extent of their injuries.

A 74-year-old Morrilton man also died Sunday after a vehicle crossed the centerline and struck the vehicle he was driving, authorities said.

It happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. on U.S. 64 east of Menifee in Conway County, according to a state police report.

Fred Fletcher of Morrilton was driving a 2016 Nissan west on the highway when an eastbound 2007 Chrysler veered into the opposing lane and hit the front of Fletcher's vehicle, the report said.

Fletcher suffered fatal injuries. A second person was listed as being hurt, but the report didn't identify the person or indicate the extent of the injuries.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of both crashes, state police said.
