There's no doubt that the Little Rock Zoo is worth visiting. Where else can visitors safely explore the wonders of elephants, rhinos, lions, gorillas (including mother Sekani and her as yet unnamed baby born June 20), tigers, giraffes, penguins, lemurs, cheetahs, monkeys, reptiles, bears, tropical birds, and much more, without leaving the city?
But truth be told, a visit is not cheap.
Admission is normally $12.95 for adults and $9.95 for children ages 3-12. Plus there's a $3 parking fee per vehicle. That can run up quite a tab for a family looking for an affordable afternoon's worth of education, entertainment, fresh air, and good times. Not to mention incredible photo ops.
Luckily, a bargain is fast approaching. Admission to the Little Rock Zoo on Saturday will cost only $1 per person. Along with the exhibits, guests can enjoy additional activities, including the Animal Ambassador Show at the Civitan Amphitheater at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The lowered price is part of the Hiland Dairy Dollar Day, an annual promotion that also features $1 products for sale from the Little Rock-based company. Hiland--formerly Coleman Dairy--is a good friend to the Zoo, having donated $22,250 this year for upgrades as well as sponsoring other special events throughout the year.
Attendance will likely be robust, so get there early. The Zoo will open at 9 a.m. Saturday and close to new admissions at 5 p.m. before closing completely at 5:30 p.m.
And that $3 parking fee? Never mind. It's free for the day.
