Boy, 16, held after spitting on officer in North Little Rock

A 16-year-old boy trying to run away from home reportedly assaulted two police officers and spit in one of the officers' faces Saturday while his mother pleaded with him to cooperate.

North Little Rock police officers went to the 1000 block of West Scenic Drive on Friday in reference to a report of a runaway youth. His mother told officers it was the second time the boy had tried to run away.

Officers said when they tried to stop him he said, "Don't touch me. We going to fight." The teen attempted to punch the officers multiple times and continuously cursed at his mother, who officers said was pleading with him to stay.

When one of the officers attempted to put the boy in a police car, the youth spit in the officer's face, a police report said.

The 16-year-old was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention center.
